15 Best Minneapolis Wedding Venues (From a Photographer Who Has Shot Them All)
I''m Emma Ziegler, a Minneapolis wedding photographer, and I''ve shot at most of the major Twin Cities wedding venues at this point — some of them dozens of times. When couples ask me for venue recommendations, I''m answering from a very specific angle: how does this venue actually photograph? Where''s the light? Where do the portraits work? What''s the timeline trap nobody mentions?
Here''s my honest, working-photographer review of 15 of the best Minneapolis wedding venues for 2026 and 2027.
1. The Hutton House — Medicine Lake
Industrial-modern, all-white interior, big windows, dramatic gold light at sunset. My favorite venue in the Twin Cities for couples who want a clean, editorial look. The covered patio saves the day in rain. Full Hutton House venue guide →
2. Aria — Downtown Minneapolis
Cavernous, beautiful, downtown. The exposed brick and giant skylight do half the work. Late-season lighting in the main hall is tricky — plan portraits before guests arrive.
3. Nicollet Island Pavilion
Skyline-on-the-Mississippi backdrop you literally cannot get anywhere else. Outdoor ceremony space is incredible at golden hour. Bring rain backup.
4. Machine Shop — NE Minneapolis
If your aesthetic is moody industrial, this is the venue. Steel, brick, and a giant front room that makes everyone look like they''re in a magazine spread.
5. Mill City Museum
Ruin Courtyard ceremony with the skyline behind you is iconic Minneapolis. Reception spaces are flexible and the catering integration is smooth.
6. A''BULAE — St. Paul
Rooftop ceremony with the St. Paul skyline. Sunset receptions here are gorgeous. The elevator situation slows down portrait logistics — build buffer time in.
7. The Saint Paul Hotel
Old-world, ballroom, marble, chandeliers. If you want classic luxury Minneapolis–St. Paul wedding photography energy, you can''t beat it.
8. Landmark Center — St. Paul
The atrium is one of the most photogenic rooms in the entire state. Tall, light-filled, dramatic. Ceremony portraits are effortless.
9. Stillwater venues (Stillwater Event Center & the river bluffs)
Stillwater = St. Croix river views, historic downtown, and the most beautiful drive between ceremony and portraits in the metro.
10. Riverside Ballroom — Minneapolis
Mississippi-front, glass walls, sunset light through the entire reception. Easy to light, hard to photograph badly.
11. The Cosmos Event Center
Modern, flexible, great for couples who want a blank canvas to bring their own design vision to.
12. Backyard / private estate weddings
Some of my favorite Minneapolis-area weddings I''ve ever shot have been backyards in Edina, Wayzata, and the Lake Minnetonka shore. With tent rentals and a good lighting plan, they hold up against any venue.
13. Spirit of the Lakes / Lake Minnetonka boat weddings
Niche but spectacular. Light on the water at sunset is unreal. Timeline = locked. Plan accordingly.
14. North Shore elopements (Duluth, Two Harbors, Grand Marais)
For couples who want to skip the big day and go intimate. Lake Superior, cliffs, evergreen forests. I treat these as 2-day mini trips — see my destination wedding photography page for travel details.
15. Hotel ballroom weddings (Hewing, Foshay, JW Marriott)
The convenience play. Guests stay onsite, ceremony + reception + getting-ready all in one building. Great for low-stress timelines.
