The Valley I Know By Heart

The St. Croix Valley is the most-photographed wedding corridor in the Upper Midwest — and for a reason. Sandstone bluffs, working vineyards, a historic lift bridge, and dozens of restored 1800s buildings across Stillwater, Hudson, and Marine on St. Croix. I live 15 minutes from the river and shoot here almost every weekend from May through October.

Local knowledge changes your gallery. I know the Stillwater Bridge light gets flat and blue after 6:30pm in September and shifts to warm gold by 5:15 in October — so we shoot portraits accordingly. I know Willow River's east ridge gets the best backlight, Afton's ski hill has an unmarked overlook most photographers miss, and the Marine General Store porch is a Sunday-morning portrait gem.

The St. Croix valley is one continuous location for me — MN or WI side, doesn't matter. Cross-river travel is included on every booking within 40 miles of the Twin Cities.
