The Depot is all scale and light: a waiting room the size of a cathedral nave, columns, and windows that flood the space on a bright day. It's a venue where wide, architectural frames matter as much as close moments, and I shoot both — the room as the couple sees it walking in, and the details inside it.

It also gives you Lowertown for portraits without moving the car: Mears Park's trees and the brick of the old warehouse district are directly outside, and the Depot's own facade on Kellogg makes a strong exterior frame.

The Waiting Room's windows face south and west, so afternoon ceremonies get the best natural light and evening receptions transition into the room's own warm lighting. I plan couple portraits in Lowertown or at Mears Park during the last hour before sunset and bring lighting for the reception so the marble and columns hold their colour after dark.

The Depot is a working transit hub as well as a venue. I coordinate with the venue team on which spaces are ours and when, so we're never waiting on a doorway.
