Deephaven Wedding Photographer

Deephaven sits in the west metro — roughly 25 minutes from downtown Minneapolis and inside the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro. I photograph weddings across Deephaven weekly and know the venues, the light, and the timing quirks unique to this corner of the Twin Cities.

Deephaven wraps around Carsons Bay and St. Louis Bay with some of the oldest lake estates on Minnetonka — a quiet, tree-heavy setting five minutes from Excelsior's downtown.

If your ceremony is in Deephaven but your portraits are downtown Minneapolis or on Summit Avenue in St. Paul, that's a routine day for me, not an add-on.

Deephaven is estate country on the south side of Lake Minnetonka — Carsons Bay, St. Louis Bay, and a street grid of century-old lake homes under heavy oak canopy. There is no hotel ballroom here; weddings are private-property affairs or use Deephaven Beach and Thorpe Park for ceremonies, with receptions at nearby Excelsior or Wayzata venues.

The canopy is the thing to plan around. Deephaven's tree cover is dense enough that ground-level light drops fast in the last hour, so I shoot couple portraits at the water's edge — Deephaven Beach and the Carsons Bay shoreline both open west and hold light much longer than the interior streets. For tented estate receptions I bring the full lighting kit; tents here are almost always under trees, which compounds the problem.
