Why Lebanon Hills

Lebanon Hills is the closest thing the Twin Cities has to a wilderness engagement session without a three-hour drive: real lakes with wooded shorelines, prairie that goes gold in September, and oaks that turn late and hold their colour into November. It's the pick for couples who hike, paddle or camp and want photos that look like it.

It's also large enough to be private. Even on a busy Saturday, ten minutes down a trail from any parking lot and we have the woods to ourselves.

Permits, Access and Seasons

Lebanon Hills is a Dakota County regional park, and professional photography there follows the county's photography-permit rules. I check the current requirements when we book and take care of what's needed, so you don't have to. Some areas — the campground, the beach in season — have their own hours and restrictions.

Late September through mid-October is the best window: prairie colour, early oak colour, and cool evenings. Summer sessions work best in the last two hours of light, when the woods stop being harsh.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need a permit for engagement photos at Lebanon Hills?

Lebanon Hills is a Dakota County regional park and the county has rules for professional photography sessions there. I confirm the current requirement when we book and handle any permit, so it's never something you have to sort out.

How much do Lebanon Hills engagement photos cost?

Engagement and couples sessions start at $450, with the full hour at Twin Cities locations, all edited images, and a private online gallery in 2–3 weeks. Eagan is inside my 40-mile no-travel-fee radius.

What's the best season for Lebanon Hills engagement photos?

Late September to mid-October — the prairie has gone gold, the oaks are turning, and evenings are cool. Winter after fresh snow is a close second and much quieter.

Which part of Lebanon Hills should we shoot in?

For water, Jensen Lake and Schulze Lake. For woods and colour, the oak trails between them. For open prairie light, the eastern trails in late summer. Most sessions combine two of those within a short walk.

Can we bring our dog?

Yes — Lebanon Hills allows leashed dogs on most trails, and dogs are a regular part of sessions here. Bring a second person to hold the leash for the frames without them.
