Couples Photography FAQ

How much does a couples photographer in Minneapolis cost?

Couples sessions start at $450 for a 1-hour shoot — same investment whether it's a date-night session, anniversary portraits, or just-because photos of the two of you. Every session includes location guidance, wardrobe support, all professionally edited images, and a private online gallery.

What's the difference between a couples session and an engagement session?

Same shoot length and same investment — the only difference is intent. Engagement sessions celebrate a proposal and double as save-the-date material; couples sessions are for anniversaries, date-night portraits, post-elopement celebrations, or simply wanting beautiful photos together. If you're recently engaged, see my dedicated engagement page for venue planning and save-the-date timing.

Do you photograph anniversary sessions?

Yes — anniversary sessions are one of my most-requested couples shoots. Whether it's your 1st, 10th, or 50th, I'll capture the same warm, unhurried feel as a wedding day. Past Sapphire wedding clients receive a complimentary 1-year anniversary session.

Do you offer date-night or just-because couples sessions?

Absolutely. Many of my favorite couples sessions are simply 'we just wanted real photos of us together.' No engagement, no anniversary needed — just bring your person and we'll spend an hour making art.

What should we wear for a couples session?

Coordinate, don't match. Two outfits is the sweet spot — one casual, one slightly dressed up. Soft neutrals, warm earth tones, and texture (knits, linen, denim) photograph beautifully. I send a detailed style guide with color palettes after booking.

We're awkward in front of the camera — will the photos look stiff?

I hear this from almost every couple, and within 10 minutes the nerves disappear. I guide you with movement-based prompts so you're walking, laughing, whispering — never stiffly posing. The photos look real because the moments are real.

Can we bring our dog or pet to the session?

Yes — pets are part of the family. I recommend bringing a friend who can wrangle them partway through so you also have just-the-two-of-you portraits.

Do you photograph LGBTQ+ couples?

Yes — proudly. Every kind of love story is welcomed and celebrated here, full stop. I've photographed countless LGBTQ+ couples sessions across Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the Twin Cities.

Where do you shoot couples sessions in the Twin Cities?

Anywhere meaningful to you. Popular Minneapolis spots include Stone Arch Bridge, Lake Harriet, Boom Island, Minnehaha Falls, and the Mill District. In St. Paul, Como Park and Summit Avenue are classics. I'm always open to shooting at locations meaningful to your relationship.

Can we do an indoor or in-home couples session?

Absolutely — in-home and cozy indoor sessions are some of my favorite work. They're perfect for Minnesota winters, intimate moments, and capturing your real space together.

How long until we get our couples photos back?

Full edited gallery in 2–3 weeks, with sneak peeks within the first week. If you have a printing or gifting deadline, mention it when booking and I'll prioritize a faster turnaround.

Will our couples photos be edited?

Every image in your gallery is hand-edited in my warm, true-to-life film-inspired style — no AI presets, no over-filtered looks. Color is corrected, skin is gently retouched, and the gallery feels cohesive top to bottom.

Do you offer same-sex wedding photography too?

Yes — many of my couples session clients also book their wedding with me. Engagement sessions are included in the Pearl and Sapphire wedding collections.

How much do couples photos cost in Minneapolis?

Couples and anniversary photography in Minneapolis ranges from $400–$900 for a 1-hour session with edited gallery. My standard rate is $450, which includes a 1-hour shoot at any Twin Cities location, wardrobe guidance, 40+ edited images, and a private gallery in 2 weeks.

Are engagement and couples photo sessions the same thing?

Same shoot, same investment, different intent. Engagement sessions celebrate a proposal and double as save-the-date material; couples sessions cover anniversaries, post-elopement portraits, or just-because shoots. If you're newly engaged see /engagement, otherwise stay here.

When should we book our Minneapolis couples session?

Book 4–8 weeks ahead for golden-hour Saturdays from May–October (these fill first), and 2–3 weeks ahead for weekday or off-peak slots. Fall-color sessions (last week of September through mid-October) book up 6–10 weeks out.

What time of day is best for a couples photo session in Minneapolis?

Golden hour — 60–90 minutes before sunset. In June that's 8–9 PM, in October it's 5–6 PM, and in December it's 3:30–4:30 PM. I time every booking to the sunset for your specific date.

Minneapolis Engagement Photographer — Top Session Locations

I shoot engagement sessions across Minneapolis and the Twin Cities year-round. These are the four spots couples request most — each with its own light, mood, and best time of day.

Stone Arch Bridge & Mill Ruins Park

The most iconic Minneapolis engagement photo location — the historic limestone arches, the Mississippi River, and the downtown skyline in one frame. Best at golden hour 60–90 minutes before sunset; parking on West River Pkwy.

Boom Island Park

Quiet riverfront with skyline views, walking paths, and a lighthouse — perfect for couples who want Minneapolis in the background without the Stone Arch crowds. Ideal sunrise or early evening engagement sessions.

Lake Harriet & Lake of the Isles

South Minneapolis classic — bandshell, sailboats, weeping willows around Lake of the Isles. The chain of lakes is one of the most-requested engagement photo backdrops in the Twin Cities, especially September–October.

Minnehaha Falls Regional Park

The 53-foot waterfall is unmistakably Minneapolis. Lush spring greens, peak fall color, or frozen winter ice columns — Minnehaha works as an engagement session location every month of the year.
