Boudoir Photography in Minneapolis: What to Expect at Your Session

If you''re considering a boudoir photography session in Minneapolis but feel nervous about how it actually works, this is for you. I''m Emma Ziegler, a Minneapolis boudoir photographer, and I''ve photographed hundreds of women in my private studio. Here''s exactly what to expect at a Honey Deww boudoir session — from the first inquiry through gallery delivery.

1. The inquiry

It usually starts with a quiet, late-night email or DM. "I''ve been thinking about this for months and I''m finally doing it." I get it. Every email gets a personal reply, never a form letter. We''ll talk through what you want, your timeline, any concerns, and I''ll send you my full boudoir photography pricing and options.

2. Booking & paperwork

To lock in your date you''ll sign a contract (covering rights, usage, and your privacy) and pay a deposit. You''ll then get my full prep guide — what to bring, what to wear, skincare tips, manicure timing, the works. Most couples and women book 3–6 weeks out.

3. The week before

I send a final timeline, a wardrobe check-in, and an address with parking instructions. You''ll start drinking extra water (it really does help your skin photograph better), get a manicure 2 days before, and pack 3–5 looks.

4. The day of — first 30 minutes

You arrive at the private studio. You will be the only client in the building. We sit down with coffee or wine (your choice), talk through your inspiration board, and look at your outfits together. This part is unhurried on purpose — I want you settled before any camera comes out.

5. Hair & makeup (optional)

I work with two Minneapolis HMUAs I love. If you book the HMU add-on, this takes about 90 minutes and you''ll feel like a different person walking back to the set.

6. Shooting

We start with the look you''re most comfortable in. I''m directing every pose — you don''t have to "know how to model." If a pose feels weird, we change it. You''ll see photos on the back of the camera as we go so you can build confidence in real time. Most clients tell me by the second outfit they completely forget they were nervous.

7. Outfit changes & rest

We work through 3–5 looks over 1.5–2.5 hours. Water and snacks are out. You can take breaks whenever you want.

8. The reveal & ordering

About 2 weeks after your session, you''ll come back to the studio for your image reveal. We''ll sit down and go through your full gallery together on the big screen. Most clients cry, in a good way. You then pick your favorites and we design your album, prints, or digitals.

9. Delivery

Albums ship in 4–6 weeks. Digital files (if included) are delivered via private password-protected gallery you control. Nothing is ever posted publicly without your written permission. Ever.

The biggest myths I hear

  • "I need to lose weight first." Every photographer hears this. Every photographer disagrees. You are ready now.
  • "It''ll be uncomfortable." It''s not — and that''s a deliberate choice in how I run the studio.
  • "I have to show skin." Wear what you want. Some of my favorite sessions are styled, fully clothed editorial.
  • "My photos will end up online." Never without explicit written permission. Most of my client galleries are 100% private.

If you''ve been thinking about it, you can reach out with zero pressure to book. Most of my clients ask 10–15 questions before committing — that''s completely normal and I''m happy to answer all of them.
