The best engagement light in the Twin Cities is in the middle

Couples usually ask whether to shoot in St. Paul or Minneapolis. My answer is almost always the stretch between St. Paul and Minneapolis. The Mississippi River gorge runs the whole length of the corridor and gives you bluffs, water, tree canopy and skyline within a few blocks of each other — and it is a short drive from either downtown.

A typical session starts an hour and a half before sunset on the river, moves to a bridge or overlook as the light drops, and finishes on a city block for the blue-hour frames. That is two very different looks in sixty minutes without a long drive between them.

Sessions are unposed and directed rather than stiff: I give you something to do, not a pose to hold. You get 50+ edited high-resolution images, a private gallery in about two weeks, and a print release so save-the-dates are easy.

Corridor Session Locations

  • Mississippi River Boulevard
  • Hidden Falls Regional Park
  • East River Flats
  • Lake Street–Marshall Avenue bridge
  • Summit Avenue & Cathedral Hill
  • Stone Arch Bridge
  • North Loop warehouse blocks

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should we shoot engagement photos between St. Paul and Minneapolis?

The Mississippi River gorge is the best answer: Mississippi River Boulevard, Hidden Falls, East River Flats and the Lake Street–Marshall Avenue bridge all sit halfway between the two downtowns. For a city look, Summit Avenue on the St. Paul side and the North Loop on the Minneapolis side.

How much is an engagement session in the Twin Cities corridor?

$495 for a 60-minute session with 50+ edited high-resolution images, location planning and a private gallery in about two weeks. Engagement photography is included free with wedding collections at $5,500 and up.

Can we shoot in both cities in one session?

Yes. A two-location session is $150 extra and works well here because the drive between downtowns is 12–15 minutes. A common pairing is river bluffs at golden hour, then a downtown block after dark.

When is the best time of year?

Late September to mid-October for gorge color, late May to mid-June for fresh green and long light. Winter sessions along the river work well when we keep them to 45 minutes with a warm-up stop.

Do you also photograph the wedding?

Yes — most couples who book engagement photography here also book wedding photography between St. Paul and Minneapolis, and the session doubles as a rehearsal for how we work together on the wedding day.
