North Shore & state parks
Tettegouche, Split Rock, Palisade Head and Gooseberry Falls all sit on state land, so a ceremony there needs a DNR special-use permit on top of the vehicle permit. I send the form and start the process 2–4 weeks ahead of your date, and the $50–$100 permit fee is billed straight through at cost. Fees and conditions are set by the DNR, not by me — confirm the current ones before you commit to a location.
Twin Cities courthouse elopements
Hennepin and Ramsey County both run civil ceremonies, and each handles its own marriage licence application and ceremony scheduling. Book the ceremony slot first and the photography second — courthouse slots are the tighter constraint. Photography inside a courthouse is subject to that building’s own rules, which is worth checking when you book rather than on the day.
Minneapolis and regional parks
City park locations — Minnehaha Falls, the Stone Arch Bridge approaches, the chain of lakes — are administered by the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board, which has its own permit process separate from the state parks system. Small ceremonies often need far less paperwork than couples expect, but the reservation still has to exist.
Private land and backyard elopements
No permit needed — just the landowner’s permission and a valid Minnesota marriage licence. This is the simplest route by a wide margin, and it is what I recommend to couples on a short timeline.
