Bloomington Wedding Venues Near MSP and the Mall

Bloomington is the easiest Twin Cities suburb for out-of-town guests: the venues sit within a few miles of MSP and the Mall of America, and the light rail connects them. The spaces I could confirm on their own websites are the Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center, Hyland Hills Chalet, Minnesota Valley Country Club, and the hotel ballrooms at the JW Marriott and the Sheraton.

I built this list by opening each venue's own site and reading what it publishes right now, in September 2026. Anything I could not confirm is named at the end rather than quietly padded into the list. Every rate below comes from the venue or the city, not from a wedding directory, and I have linked each one so you can check it yourself before you tour.

Which Bloomington venues publish real numbers?

Two do, and that makes them the easiest places to start.

The Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center at 11411 Masonic Home Drive sits on an 80-acre campus and publishes flat wedding packages: Just Us at $800, Mini Matrimony at $1,500, Afternoon Nuptials at $2,100 and Savvy Soiree at $5,000, each including tables, chairs and A/V. It also publishes a $200 bar fee when bar service is provided in-house, a preferred-caterer discount, and free parking. Three halls are named — Dan Patch Hall, the Grand Hall and Evergreen Hall — and both indoor and outdoor ceremonies are offered.

Hyland Hills Chalet, inside Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington, rents April through September. The Alpine Room is $1,350 on weekdays and $3,400 Friday through Sunday and holidays, plus a $1,500 facility deposit and a $382 security fee. Three Rivers requires full-service catering there — drop-off catering is not allowed, though desserts may come from outside — and states that Hyland Hills is the only permitted alcohol vendor, serving beer and wine only. There is also a hilltop ceremony option reached by chairlift, for an additional fee.

Hotel ballrooms near MSP and the Mall of America

If half your guest list is flying in, a hotel ballroom removes an entire category of problems.

• The JW Marriott Minneapolis Mall of America at 2141 Lindau Lane publishes almost 20,000 square feet of event space across six event rooms and twelve breakout rooms. Its Diamond Ballroom holds up to 1,040 for a banquet and 1,725 theatre-style, and the hotel staffs Marriott Certified Wedding Planners.
• The Sheraton Bloomington Hotel at 5601 West 78th Street publishes 17,802 square feet across 13 rooms. The Bloomington Ballroom holds 500 and the Garden Court, which the hotel describes as having natural light, holds up to 450.

Natural light matters more than square footage for photographs. A windowless ballroom is perfectly workable, but it means portraits happen outside or in the lobby, and the timeline has to say so. Is Minnesota Valley Country Club members only?

No, and this is the single most common wrong assumption I hear about suburban clubs. Minnesota Valley Country Club at 6300 Auto Club Road states plainly on its own site that "MVCC's ballroom is open to the public" and that the room suits receptions up to 300 people, with floor-to-ceiling views of the golf course. Its catering page says the club's chef customises wedding menus.

The lesson generalises: read the club's own weddings page before you rule it out. Some Twin Cities clubs genuinely restrict events to members and their sponsors, some quietly sell every Saturday they can, and the directories rarely tell you which is which.

What can you rent from the city and Three Rivers?

Bloomington's own park shelters are the cheap, small-ceremony option, but read the calendar rules first. The city's rentals and reservations page lists an enclosed shelter building at Bryant Park and gazebos at Dred Scott Playfield, Smith Park, Valley View Playfield and Wright's Lake Park. The shelter season runs 15 April to 15 October, reservations for 2026 opened online on 6 January, and a Temporary Conditional Use Permit costing $50 to $200 is required if you want a tent, a stage or an inflatable.

The same page notes that since 1 January 2025 Three Rivers Park District manages Bush Lake and the Normandale Lake bandshell and trails, so those reservations go through Three Rivers rather than the city. That matters if you were planning a ceremony at the bandshell and calling city hall about it.

What do out-of-town guests need to know?

Bloomington's official visitor site points out that the METRO Blue Line runs directly between the airport, the Mall of America and Bloomington stations, and that many hotels run complimentary airport shuttles — see its Bloomington wedding venues page. In practice that means guests who fly in do not need a rental car, which is worth saying on your wedding website.

It also changes your timeline. If the block is a five-minute walk or one light-rail stop from the reception, you can start later and end later. If it is a 20-minute drive, build in shuttle time and expect the last hour of dancing to thin out.

How do we get a marriage licence in Hennepin County?

Bloomington is in Hennepin County, so the licence comes from Hennepin. The county's marriage licence page puts the fee at $125, or $50 if you have completed 12 hours of premarital education, and says the licence is valid for six months. The county offers three ways to apply, including submitting information online before your visit and a remote option by mail, and asks for identification such as a driver's licence, state ID or birth certificate.

The reduced fee is set by statute, not by the county: Minnesota Statutes section 517.08 sets the fee at $125 and the reduced licence fee at $50 for couples who complete at least 12 hours of premarital education covering a premarital inventory plus communication and conflict-management skills. If you only need the legal part, Hennepin also performs civil ceremonies at the counter for a non-refundable $45, with two witnesses aged 16 or older, as its marriage ceremony page explains.

What I check before photographing in each space

Every venue on this list has a different limiting factor, and knowing which one it is decides your timeline.

• Permits. Three Rivers requires a paid pass for every portrait and professional photography session: $28 per hour or $275 for an annual pass, bought at least two weeks ahead, with participants kept on designated trails. • Ceremony direction. Outdoor sites face a fixed way. Ask which direction the aisle points and at what time, then compare that to sunset.
• Rain plan. Ask where the ceremony moves, how long the flip takes and who calls it. Our Minnesota rain plan guide covers the decision points.
• Vendor rules. Hyland's exclusive alcohol policy and the Masonic Center's preferred-caterer list both shape the budget more than the room fee does.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Bloomington Event Center still booking weddings?

No. I left it off this list because its own website states that the Bloomington Event Center is no longer accepting new reservations. It appears on plenty of venue directories and tourism round-ups that have not been updated, which is exactly why it is worth opening a venue's own site before you plan a tour or put a date on hold.

Can non-members book a wedding at Minnesota Valley Country Club?

Yes. The club's own weddings and events page says its ballroom is open to the public and suits receptions up to 300 guests. Country clubs vary enormously on this point, so check each club's published weddings page rather than assuming. If a club does not say either way, ask directly whether a member sponsor is required before you fall for the room.

Do we need a photography permit at Hyland Lake Park Reserve?

Your photographer does. Three Rivers Park District requires anyone paid to take photographs to hold an hourly pass at $28 or an annual pass at $275, purchased at least two weeks in advance, and asks that sessions stay on designated trails and off the paved bike trail. Ask your photographer to confirm they hold a current pass.

How long is a Hennepin County marriage licence valid?

Six months, according to the county's marriage licence page. That is generous enough to apply well before the wedding, but not so generous that you can do it a year out. Apply once your date is firm, keep the licence somewhere safe, and hand it to whoever is signing on the day rather than leaving it in a hotel room.

Which Bloomington venue suits a small wedding?

The Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center publishes packages starting with a very small ceremony option, and the city's park gazebos are inexpensive for a short outdoor ceremony within the 15 April to 15 October season. For anything under about 40 guests, a park gazebo plus a restaurant dinner is often cheaper and warmer than a ballroom you have to fill.
