Lakeville Wedding Venues and Ceremony Sites

Lakeville has four private venues I was able to confirm on their own websites are currently booking weddings, plus a city parks system that rents shelters and a gazebo at published rates. It sits at the south end of the I-35 corridor in Dakota County, so the venue and the guest drive are really one decision.

Everything below comes from the venue's own page or the city's own fee schedule. Wedding directories go stale quickly: capacities change, rooms get renamed, and a place that stopped taking weddings can still look bookable on a marketplace listing. Treat this as a starting shortlist, then confirm the numbers that matter to your budget when you tour. Which Lakeville venues can I confirm host weddings?

Four, at the time of writing. Each one publishes enough detail on its own site that you can plan a floor plan and a guest count against it rather than guessing.

Brackett's Crossing Country Club

Brackett's Crossing is a private member club on Judicial Road, but the club states plainly that its event spaces are available for special events. The Platinum Ballroom holds up to 425 for a wedding, the Diamond Ballroom 225, the Emerald Ballroom 200 and the Pearl Room 80. There is an outdoor garden ceremony site with brick focal area, pillars and a pergola that seats up to 300, and the Emerald Ballroom is offered as the indoor ceremony option or the weather backup. A bridal suite for 30 and a smaller boardroom-style groom's suite are listed separately.

Crystal Lake Golf Club

Crystal Lake on Innsbrook Drive publishes a dedicated wedding page describing the Crystal Room, a private banquet space with two walls of large windows looking over the 16th and 18th greens, an adjacent patio and a foyer with a fireplace. Ceremonies happen either outdoors at a gazebo set among trees on the course or indoors in the banquet room. The site does not publish a seated capacity, so make that your first question rather than trusting a third-party number.

Chart House

Chart House sits on Lake Kingsley at 11287 Klamath Trail and describes a lakeside ballroom, a ceremony garden and a bridal suite. Its packages include on-site catering, bar service and a DJ, with wedding planning and day-of coordination built in; photography, florals, decor and transport are offered as add-ons rather than as part of the base package. Capacity is not stated on the wedding pages, so ask for the seated number for your specific layout.

Holiday Inn and Suites Minneapolis - Lakeville

The Grand Facile Ballroom at 20800 Kenrick Avenue is the largest published room in town: just over 4,200 square feet, seating up to 325 on rounds of eight or up to 400 banquet-style, with a 520-square-foot Heritage Conference Room for parties of about 40. Food and drink come from on-site catering. For a wedding where a lot of guests are travelling, having rooms in the same building removes an entire transport problem from your timeline.

What does the city itself rent, and what does it cost?

Lakeville publishes its park rental rates, which makes a city shelter one of the few venue costs you can pin down before you call anyone. On the city's outdoor park facility rental page, Shelter A at Antlers Park runs $140 half day and $170 full day for residents, or $180 and $230 for non-residents; Shelters B and C there are $100 and $130 for residents. Shelters at Casperson Park, East Community Park and Valley Lake Park, and the gazebo at Ritter Farm Park, are each $80 half day and $110 full day for residents, or $110 and $160 for non-residents. Half day means 9am to 3pm or 4pm to 10pm; full day is 9am to 10pm.

The rules matter as much as the price. Beer and wine are permitted but no glass containers. One 10-by-10 pop-up tent is allowed free with a shelter reservation, and additional tents carry a $25 fee. Live or recorded music is fine as long as it is not disruptive to other park users, which in practice means a ceremony PA rather than a reception sound system.

Indoors, the Lakeville Area Arts Center at 20195 Holyoke Avenue lists a theatre that seats 259 depending on configuration, a large meeting room for 40 to 100, a lobby and four smaller Fine Arts Building rooms. The arts centre rental page also lists the Casperson Park performance stage, with its terraced lawn for up to 1,000 people, at $100 per hour with a two-hour minimum, plus $200 per day for sound and lighting equipment and $30 per hour for tech staff. Wedding-specific rates are in the downloadable policy document, so request it before you build a budget.

What does the drive mean for your guests and your timeline?

Lakeville is an easy freeway run from both downtowns, but it is a run. The city's visitor bureau puts Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport 15 to 20 minutes from Lakeville hotels, which is the number worth quoting to out-of-town guests. From the northern suburbs or the far east metro, budget noticeably more, and remember that a Friday afternoon ceremony puts your guests on I-35 in rush hour.

Two practical consequences. First, if your ceremony and reception are in different places, a 20-minute transfer becomes 40 once you add parking and stragglers, so either keep both at one venue or build the gap in deliberately. Second, getting-ready locations near the venue save more time than almost any other decision, because every mile between the hotel room and the ceremony comes out of portrait time. What should you check about light and portraits at each space?

You do not need to be a photographer to answer these, and asking them on the tour is faster than any online gallery.

• Which direction do the ballroom windows face, and at what time of day does direct sun hit the room? Brackett's and Crystal Lake both sell their golf course views, which means large windows and a room that changes character hour by hour.
• Where does the ceremony party stand relative to the sun at your ceremony time? An open garden or gazebo site at 3pm in July is a very different exposure problem from the same site at 6pm.
• Is there a covered or indoor portrait option that is not the reception room? A ballroom being flipped is not available to you.
• What are the vendor rules: where can lighting stands go, is anything prohibited on the grass, and what is the latest access time?
• What is the venue's own rain call deadline, and who makes it?

How do you get a marriage licence in Dakota County?

Lakeville is in Dakota County, and a Minnesota licence is valid statewide regardless of which county issues it. Dakota County charges $125 for a marriage licence, or $50 if you complete 12 hours of premarital education and submit a signed form. In most cases both parties must be present to apply, though the county notes exceptions. Acceptable identification includes a birth certificate or birth record, a government or school photo ID, or a document from school, immigration, a court or the government showing date of birth. Once issued, the licence is valid for six months.

Applications are taken at the Administration Center in Hastings, the Northern Service Center in West Saint Paul and the Western Service Center in Apple Valley. The fee and the education discount are set by Minnesota Statutes section 517.08, which also specifies that qualifying premarital education must include a premarital inventory and teaching of communication and conflict management skills. What should you ask a Lakeville venue before you sign?

Ask for the seated capacity for your actual layout, not the maximum. Ask what the room looks like at your ceremony hour, not in the marketing photos. Ask who is responsible for the rain call and by when. Ask whether catering and bar are exclusive, and what that does to the total. Ask what time vendors can load in and what time everything must be out, because a hard 10pm curfew in a city park changes your entire evening plan.

And ask how the venue handles a second event on the same day. A ballroom that flips between a morning ceremony and an evening reception gives you far less access than a single-event property. Can you serve alcohol at a Lakeville park shelter?

Do I need a Dakota County licence to marry in Lakeville?

No. A Minnesota marriage licence is valid anywhere in the state no matter which county issues it, so you can apply wherever is convenient. Many couples marrying in Lakeville simply use the Dakota County service centre closest to home, and the fee is the same statewide.

How far ahead should I book a Lakeville venue?

For a Saturday in June, September or October, a year to eighteen months is normal for the larger ballrooms. City park shelters open to non-residents after 1 March, so if you want a specific shelter on a specific summer Saturday, put a reminder in your calendar rather than assuming it will be free.
