Plymouth Wedding Venues and What They Cost

Plymouth's strongest wedding option is the city's own building. The Plymouth Community Center publishes full room rates, a 3,500-square-foot ballroom and a garden ceremony site, which makes it one of the few west-metro venues you can budget for before you call anyone. Two private venues round out the shortlist.

I confirmed each of these on the venue's own website rather than a directory listing, because marketplace pages carry stale capacities and sometimes list places that no longer take weddings at all. Where a venue does not publish a number, I say so instead of borrowing one. Which Plymouth venues can I confirm host weddings?

Three, at the time of writing, and they sit at genuinely different scales: a 300-guest civic ballroom, a full-service hotel, and a small dinner-party room.

Plymouth Community Center

The city building next to Plymouth Creek Park Reserve rents the Plymouth Room, a 3,500-square-foot space with large north and west windows over the Millennium Garden. The city publishes its wedding capacities as 250 for a buffet, 300 plated and 400 audience-style, with tables and chairs for 250 included, plus a built-in bar, a stage and a video system. Half the room is available Monday to Thursday and fits up to 128 guests. Two Green Rooms, one on each level, are rented separately as getting-ready space.

Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West

The Crowne Plaza at 3131 Campus Drive is the biggest published event footprint in Plymouth: 38,193 square feet across 35 venues, hosting up to 450 guests. The Scandinavian Ballroom is 3,775 square feet and divides into the Oslo, Stockholm, Elsinore and Helsinki rooms at 936 square feet each, all looking onto a 25-acre wetland preserve with outdoor benches and a fire pit. The hotel's wedding page lists a ceremony fee of $850 covering a dedicated private ceremony space, chair setup and teardown, a microphone, unity tables and rehearsal space, and confirms ballroom access until 1am.

The Fox and Pantry

For a dinner rather than a dance, The Fox and Pantry rents several small rooms. Its private events page lists the Den at 12 to 16 guests, the Den plus bar at 40 to 45 reception-style, the Pantry at 35 to 40 seated, a separate Studio space at 35 to 40, and a full buyout at 100. What does the Plymouth Room actually cost?

This is the part most venues will not tell you until you tour, and Plymouth publishes it. On the city's wedding rental page, the full Plymouth Room is $3,450 for residents and $3,810 for non-residents on a Friday or Saturday from 10am to midnight; $2,950 and $3,300 on a Sunday from 10am to 10pm; and $1,100 and $1,275 Monday to Thursday. Half the room, Monday to Thursday only, is $700 for residents and $825 for non-residents. A refundable damage deposit of $750 is due 60 days before the event.

The rate includes tables and chairs with setup and takedown, a projector and screen, a microphone, the built-in bar and free on-site parking. Linens are not included and are required whenever food or drink is served, so budget separately. Catering must come from one of the city's exclusive caterers, and liquor must go through them too, which is the single biggest variable in your final number. Booking opens 24 months out for residents and 18 months for non-residents, with half the Plymouth Room fee due at booking.

Is the Millennium Garden a good ceremony site?

It is the reason many couples look at Plymouth at all. The garden sits beside the community centre and, per the same city page, holds up to 300 people audience-style and is available May through October at $530 for residents and $640 for non-residents for a four-hour block, either 10am to 2pm or 3pm to 7pm. The rate includes a sound system with a microphone and a one-hour rehearsal on the Wednesday or Thursday before.

Read the exclusions carefully, because they are where garden weddings go wrong. The garden rate does not include chairs, tables, tents, indoor reception space or a weather backup, and chairs must be ordered through a named rental company at a per-chair cost, and a $500 refundable damage deposit applies. In plain terms: if it rains and you have not separately booked an indoor room, you do not have a rain plan. Decide that in the same conversation as the garden booking, not in the week before. What should you check about light and portraits?

Plymouth's spaces reward a little planning because so much of the appeal is glass and garden.

• The Plymouth Room's windows face north and west. North light is steady all day; the west wall turns into direct evening sun in summer, which is beautiful for portraits and difficult for a first dance. Ask what window coverings exist.
• The Millennium Garden's 3pm to 7pm block spans the harshest and the softest light of a summer day. A ceremony at the front of that block and portraits at the back of it is usually the right order.
• At the Crowne Plaza, the wetland preserve and fire pit are the outdoor feature. Ask how far the walk is from the ballroom door, because a five-minute walk each way is ten minutes off your portrait window.
• In a small room like the Den or the Pantry, ceiling height and lamp colour matter more than square footage. Ask whether overhead lighting can be dimmed independently of the wall lights.

How do you get a marriage licence in Hennepin County?

Plymouth is in Hennepin County. The county charges $125 for a marriage licence, reduced to $50 with 12 hours of premarital education, and the licence is valid for six months. You will need identification such as a driving licence, state ID or birth certificate. Hennepin offers three application routes: both applicants attending in person, one applicant attending with notarised documentation from the other, or a fully remote option. You can submit your applicant information online first and schedule an appointment to cut the wait at the counter.

The fee and the education discount are both set by Minnesota Statutes section 517.08, which requires that the 12 hours include a premarital inventory and the teaching of communication and conflict management skills. A Minnesota licence is valid statewide, so the county you apply in is a matter of convenience, not of where you marry.

What I could not confirm in Plymouth

French Regional Park sits in Plymouth and is run by Three Rivers Park District, whose visitor centre page confirms the building can be reserved by groups but says nothing about weddings, and the district's own wedding page names four other locations instead. I have left it out rather than imply it books ceremonies. Hollydale Golf Course, which appears on older venue lists, is no longer a golf operation. If either changes, this post will change with it.

More generally: be suspicious of any Plymouth venue list that runs to a dozen entries. That is the common pairing, and the city runs a booking incentive around renting both. Just remember the garden rate excludes chairs, tents and any weather backup, so an indoor room has to be booked and paid for separately if you want a genuine rain plan rather than a hope.

Is Plymouth in Hennepin County for a marriage licence?

Yes, Plymouth is in Hennepin County. But a Minnesota marriage licence is valid across the whole state regardless of which county issues it, so apply wherever is easiest for you both. Hennepin allows in-person, partly remote and fully remote applications, which helps if one of you lives out of state.

How far in advance can you book the Plymouth Room?
