Eagan is the south metro's most practical wedding town. It has a city-run banquet room that seats 300 and publishes its rates, a private ballroom that seats 350, a golf and event centre with three rooms, and four park pavilions you can reserve two years out. It is ten minutes from the airport, which matters when half your guests are flying in.
Everything below comes from what each venue publishes on its own website. I have included the rates where they exist, the indoor backup for every outdoor ceremony, the Dakota County licence steps, and how I would build the portrait window around each space. One venue that appears on other lists is missing, and I explain why at the end.
What are the main wedding venues in Eagan?
- Eagan Community Center, 1501 Central Parkway. City-run, with the Oaks Banquet Room and an outdoor ceremony site in a 60-acre park.
- Royal Cliff, 2280 Cliff Road. A private ballroom and garden with in-house catering and bar.
- Lost Spur Golf and Event Center, 2750 Sibley Memorial Highway. Three banquet rooms with indoor and outdoor ceremony options.
- City park pavilions. Four reservable pavilions at Blackhawk, Thomas Lake, Central and Trapp Farm parks.

What does the Eagan Community Center cost?
The city prints a clean rate card. The Oaks Banquet Room offers more than 5,000 square feet of indoor event space for up to 300 people, and the published reception rates are $1,650 on a Friday, $1,950 on a Saturday and $1,100 on a Sunday from May through October, dropping to $1,250 on a Friday and $1,500 on a Saturday from November through April, with Sunday unchanged at $1,100. Adding a ceremony on site is $600.
The package includes custom room setup, event cleanup, furniture, a built-in dance floor, the audio and video system, on-site parking and wifi. Linens and decor are not included, so budget for them separately. The catering rule is the one to plan around: outside food and beverages are not permitted, and you choose from five contracted providers for both food and drink. That removes a lot of decisions and a lot of flexibility at the same time, so ask each contracted caterer for a full quote before you assume the venue is cheap.
The outdoor ceremony site sits against a wooded lot with a fountain, and the building provides separate changing rooms for the couple. A new Pines Banquet Room is scheduled to arrive in 2027, which is worth asking about if you are booking far ahead.
Why a built-in dance floor matters
It sounds like a footnote and it is not. A built-in floor fixes where the dancing happens, which fixes where the head table, the cake and the band can sit, which fixes where I stand during the first dance and where the light comes from. Ask to see a floor plan with 300 chairs on it rather than an empty room, because a room that seats 300 for dinner rarely seats 300 with a dance floor and a band in it.
Royal Cliff and Lost Spur
Royal Cliff publishes a main ballroom with full seated capacity of 350 across more than 6,500 square feet, plus an outdoor ceremony garden seating 240 with a trellis, theatre-style ceremony seating indoors, in-house catering and bar, and free on-site parking and wifi. It is the largest published seated capacity in Eagan. Rates are not published, so ask for an all-in figure including bar, service charge and sales tax.
Lost Spur Golf and Event Center states that it offers three banquet rooms, full-service bars, dance floors and direct access to outdoor patios, and hosts both indoor and outdoor ceremonies with in-house catering and customisable menus. It does not publish per-room capacities, so ask for the seated number for each of the three rooms and which one you are actually being quoted for. Patios are a real advantage for photographs, because they give guests somewhere to be at golden hour and give me an easy place to take you for ten minutes without leaving the party.
Can you rent an Eagan park for a ceremony?
Yes, and the reservation window is unusually generous. Eagan's park pavilion and facility page describes four pavilions at Blackhawk, Thomas Lake, Central and Trapp Farm parks seating between 80 and 150 guests, rented on a full or half-day basis from 1 May through early October, with pavilions, sun shelters and shelter buildings available from mid-April. Reservations can be made two years in advance. The Blackhawk and Central Park pavilions have water, electricity, charcoal grills and kitchens, and several parks have outdoor fire pits.
The city also lists eight multi-functional and warming-house buildings and sun or picnic shelters across some 60 parks. Fees are not published on that page; the city directs you to its online reservation system or to Parks and Recreation on 651-675-5500, so call for a current figure rather than trusting a number you find on a wedding directory.
Where is the indoor backup?
Every outdoor ceremony in Minnesota needs a named indoor room and a named decision time, and Eagan makes that easier than most towns.
- Eagan Community Center. The Oaks is in the same building as the outdoor site, so the backup is a flip rather than a move. Ask how long the flip takes and who does it.
- Royal Cliff. The garden's backup is theatre-style seating in the ballroom, which again is the same building.
- Lost Spur. Indoor and outdoor ceremonies are both offered, so confirm which room the ceremony moves into and whether that is the same room as dinner.
- Park pavilions. An open-air pavilion is its own rain plan only if it is not already full of chairs and food. Decide in advance which half you give up.

Light, and where the portraits go
Eagan's landscape is wooded and rolling rather than dramatic, which is good news: mature trees give soft, even light for most of the afternoon, and you rarely need to fight hard sun. The Community Center's 60-acre park, the Lost Spur fairways and Royal Cliff's garden all work for the same reason.
The plan I would push for is the same at all three. Build a 30 to 40 minute couple portrait window ending at sunset, using our month-by-month table of Minnesota sunset times and wedding timelines to find the number for your date, and protect it in the run sheet so nobody schedules toasts through it. How do you get a marriage licence in Dakota County?
Eagan is in Dakota County. The county's marriage licence page states the fee is $125, reduced to $50 when you have completed 12 hours of premarital education and bring the signed form, and that the licence is valid for six months once issued. Both parties usually need to be present to sign, with some exceptions, and you can complete the application online first.
Sign in person at the Administration Center in Hastings, the Northern Service Center in West St. Paul or the Western Service Center in Apple Valley. Appointments are encouraged but walk-ins are accepted. Minnesota Statutes section 517.08 is the authority for the fee, the reduced fee and the six-month term. Which Eagan venues did you leave out, and why?
Caponi Art Park is often suggested as a ceremony site, but I could not confirm on its own website that it rents space for private weddings, so it is not on this list. Several venues that wedding directories file under Eagan are actually in Rosemount, Burnsville or Mendota Heights. If Caponi publishes wedding rentals, it belongs here and I will add it.
