Chanhassen Wedding Venues: A Photographer's Guide

Chanhassen has one private venue that publishes wedding packages on its own website, two city pavilions on Lake Ann and Lake Susan, and a 340-acre county park on Lake Minnewashta with four reservable shelters. Several places couples call Chanhassen venues publish a Chaska or Excelsior address instead.

Everything below is taken from the venue's own page, the City of Chanhassen's published fee table or Carver County's own park and licence pages. Directory listings go stale quickly, so I have left out anything I could not confirm at the source and said why at the end. Which Chanhassen venues can I confirm host weddings?

Two private-sector options publish enough on their own sites to plan against, and both sit inside the city limits. The city and county spaces further down are worth as much attention, because they are the only ones in town that publish a price before you call. Chanhassen Dinner Theatres

The weddings and events office is at 527 West 78th Street, in the middle of town. The theatre offers all-inclusive wedding packages across three named venues: the Club Theatre, the Carver Rooms and Bluff Creek Golf Course. Lighting, tables, Chiavari chairs, black or white linens, tableware and votives are listed as included, along with plated entrees and day-of coordination. Seated capacities are not published on the wedding page, so make that your first question. Ask which of the three spaces your date is actually in, too, because Bluff Creek Golf Course publishes its own address at 1025 Creekwood Drive in Chaska.

Chanhassen Recreation Center

At 2310 Coulter Boulevard, the rec centre rents four community meeting rooms that accommodate 5 to 120 people at $20 per hour for residents and $25 for non-residents. The rooms form one 44 ft by 94 ft space or divide into two, three or four, two have kitchenettes, and the city notes the natural light, which matters more than it sounds. The catch is plain on the same page: the Recreation Center is a smoke-free and alcohol-free building. That rules it out for a reception with a bar and makes it a genuinely good, cheap option for a ceremony, a brunch reception or a rehearsal. What do Chanhassen's own park pavilions cost?

This is the one venue cost in town you can pin down before you speak to anyone. The city publishes a flat group reservation rate table: residents pay $125 Monday to Thursday and $150 Friday to Sunday for a group under 100, or $175 and $225 for a group of 100 or more. Non-residents pay $225 and $275 under 100, and $325 and $375 at 100 or more. Rates include tax, and non-profit and senior groups are listed at a quarter off. Reservations for 2026 run between 20 April and 2 October, they go through an online portal, and staff take one to two business days to come back with a permit and payment details.

Three shelters are reservable, and the difference between them is not subtle:

• Lakeside Pavilion at Lake Ann Park, 1456 West 78th Street: 40 ft by 40 ft, holds 25 to 175, overlooks the lake, has lights, power, a charcoal grill, water, public restrooms and 12 to 15 picnic tables. Concessions and watercraft rental operate underneath it from Memorial Day weekend to 15 August, which is worth knowing if you want a quiet ceremony.
• Al Klingelhutz Memorial Pavilion, also at Lake Ann Park: 50 ft by 100 ft, holds 100 to 400, 30 to 40 picnic tables, charcoal grills, a water spigot and portable restrooms, with the beach reachable by a stairway.
• Lake Susan Picnic Shelter, 903 Lake Drive: 25 ft by 45 ft, holds 50 to 200, with lights, power, water, permanent restrooms, a playground, a sand volleyball court and boat access.

One line in the city's rules decides whether a park works for you at all: your group gets exclusive use of the shelter, but the general public still uses every other amenity in the park. On a warm Saturday in July, Lake Ann's beach is busy. If you want privacy in your ceremony frames, book early in the day or late in the season. Can you hold a ceremony at Lake Minnewashta Regional Park?

Yes, with a permit. Carver County's own page puts Lake Minnewashta Regional Park at 6900 Hazeltine Boulevard, Chanhassen, on 340 acres along Highway 41 between Highway 5 and Highway 7, with a swimming beach, five miles of trails, a fishing pier and a creative playground that opened in 2025.

The reservation rules are published separately, and the key sentence for couples is that a Special Use Permit is required for wedding ceremonies and wedding-related events. On the same page, the Hilltop, Big Oak and Trailside shelters rent at $42 on a weekday and $110 Friday through Sunday and holidays, each with a $10 reservation fee and a $100 refundable damage deposit; the larger Lakeview shelter, which has a kitchenette, indoor flush restrooms and covered seating for about 144, runs $150 and $250. Picnic shelters are reservable from the second full weekend in May through the first full weekend in October, bookings open a year out and close four days before the date, and a reservation over 100 people may require portable restrooms at your expense.

Hilltop and Trailside each seat about 64 under cover with room for another 48 outside, and Big Oak seats about 80. The turf paths between the car park and the shelters are the practical constraint, so walk the route in the shoes you plan to wear.

Which nearby venues publish a different city's address?

This trips up more Chanhassen searches than anything else, and it matters because contracts, vendor travel and guest directions all follow the address rather than the reputation.

• The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is the one everyone means. Its own site publishes the address as 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chaska, so I have covered it in the Chaska guide rather than here. It is a short drive either way, and I keep a dedicated Arboretum wedding page for couples booking there.
• Camp Tanadoona, run by Camp Fire Minnesota on Lake Minnewashta, is frequently listed as Chanhassen. The organisation's own wedding page describes the property as being in Excelsior and quotes $5,500 for a Friday or Sunday, $7,000 for a Saturday and $14,750 for a full weekend, each plus a 15 percent service charge and a $1,000 refundable damage deposit.
• Paisley Park genuinely is in Chanhassen, at 7801 Audubon Road, and it takes private event enquiries through an event rental form. Its rental page does not mention weddings or publish spaces and capacities, so I am not listing it as a wedding venue. If it is your dream, ask them directly rather than trusting a directory.

What should you plan for light and portraits here?

Chanhassen is a west-metro city of lakes and mature oaks, and that shapes the day more than the building does. At Lake Ann and Lake Minnewashta the good light is on the water side, so a late-afternoon ceremony can put the sun behind your guests and in your officiant's eyes. I would rather set the ceremony an hour before the light gets low and keep the last 20 minutes of the day for couple portraits at the shoreline. Indoors, the Recreation Center rooms are the brightest predictable option in town and the Club Theatre is the darkest; a theatre is built to control light, not to let it in. Neither is a problem, but they need different plans made before the day. Build a weather fallback for every outdoor element too, because a picnic shelter is a rain plan for rain, not for a 40-degree wind off the lake. How do you get a marriage licence in Carver County?

Chanhassen and Chaska are both in Carver County, and the county government centre is at 600 East 4th Street in Chaska. Carver County's own page sets out the process: the application is completed through the county's online system, then both parties appear in person by appointment to complete the oath and collect the licence. Bring a driver's licence, state ID or passport, know your own Social Security number, and have details of any previous marriage and how it ended. The fee is $125, or $50 if you have completed at least 12 hours of premarital education and bring a signed, dated Educator's Statement on the educator's letterhead, notarised or under the church seal. The licence is valid for six months and there is no refund if you do not use it.

The reduced fee is not a county policy, it is state law. Minnesota Statutes section 517.08 sets the $125 fee, the $50 rate for couples with 12 hours of premarital education, and the six-month validity. The education must include a premarital inventory and teaching on communication and conflict management, delivered by a licensed or ordained minister, someone authorised to solemnise marriages, or a licensed marriage and family therapist. A Minnesota licence is valid statewide, so the county you apply in is a convenience decision. Can you legally get married in a Chanhassen city park?

Yes. A Minnesota marriage is valid wherever a registered officiant solemnises it, so a reserved pavilion at Lake Ann or Lake Susan works fine. Book the shelter for your ceremony window, remember that your exclusive use covers the shelter and not the beach or playground, and check whether your group size pushes you into the higher rate band.

Do I need a permit for a wedding at Lake Minnewashta Regional Park?

Yes. Carver County Parks states that a Special Use Permit is required for wedding ceremonies and wedding-related events, on top of the shelter reservation itself. Start that conversation with the parks office early rather than assuming the shelter booking is the whole job, and budget for portable restrooms if you expect more than 100 people.

Is the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen or Chaska?

The Arboretum publishes its address as 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chaska. The grounds are large and sit near the boundary, which is why so many listings say Chanhassen, but the address on the contract and on your vendors' route will say Chaska. Plan travel and delivery times from that address rather than from a map pin someone else dropped.

Which Chanhassen venue holds the most guests?

Of the spaces publishing numbers, the Al Klingelhutz Memorial Pavilion at Lake Ann Park is the largest at 100 to 400 people under a 50 ft by 100 ft roof. The Recreation Center's combined meeting rooms top out around 120. Chanhassen Dinner Theatres does not publish seated capacities on its wedding page, so ask for the number for your specific layout.

How far ahead should I book a Chanhassen venue?

City shelter reservations for the following summer open in the new year and the popular Saturdays go quickly, so put a calendar reminder in rather than waiting. For a private venue on a Saturday in June, September or October, a year to eighteen months out is normal in this part of the metro. If you already know your date, say so when you enquire and ask what else is held that day.
